The mechanical integrity of power transformer usually gets disturbed by the damage or deformation to transformer windings (viz. The axial/radial movement, reduced clamping pressure etc.) which are likely to occur by the short circuit forces, unskilled or rough handling during manufacturing, and/or transportations. Hence, monitoring and condition-based maintenances are the must even at an early stage for the winding damage or deformation. If they remain unattended, the occurrence of many such incidences in future could result in catastrophic failure of transformers. Therefore, to prevent the failure in transformer operation as well as to improve the quality in its service, the incipient faults in transformer winding are to be detected and diagnosed at a very early stage. In this direction this paper presents a comprehensive analysis on advanced frequency response measurement techniques for detecting transformer winding damages.
