The Role of Technology in Carbon Farming
摘要
Technological innovation is increasingly central to enhancing carbon (C) farming systems, addressing both agricultural productivity and climate mitigation. This chapter examines the role of precision agriculture, smart sensors, remote sensing, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain in improving soil C sequestration through optimized resource management, real-time monitoring, and transparent C accounting. The integration of these technologies supports higher C capture rates and economic incentives via C credit markets. Key challenges—including sensor calibration, data integration, infrastructure gaps, scalability, and regulatory constraints—are analyzed alongside potential solutions. Framed by two hypotheses, the chapter demonstrates how advanced technologies can enhance C sequestration efficiency and drive the adoption of C farming practices, contributing to both environmental resilience and economic viability.
