The act of writing, on any medium, involves implementing a sequence of gestures, which produce or select from a set of basic signs or sign components, which may be assembled into more complex compound signs, which are arranged into text. Any stage of that process may involve some ambiguity as to what was intended. And at any stage of that process, the technology being used to write may make assumptions that limit the flexibility of the system.
