Pneumatic Dilation
摘要
Pneumatic dilation (PD) has been used for decades as a treatment for symptoms of achalasia. The procedure works by inflating a noncompliant balloon across the gastroesophageal junction to disrupt the muscle fibers of the lower esophageal sphincter. PD can be performed on an outpatient basis and with minimal specialized equipment. PD remains an effective option for achalasia treatment and should be included as a therapeutic option for patients who prefer less invasive treatment options, though repeat treatment may be necessary for recurrent symptoms.
