Intragastric Balloons
摘要
Intragastric balloons (IGBs) are non-surgical devices used for weight loss in individuals with obesity, particularly when other methods have not been successful. These balloons are placed in the stomach through a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure or swallowing it, and filled with saline or gas, occupying space and promoting a feeling of fullness to reduce food intake. Typically, IGBs are kept in the stomach for about 4-12 months and are then removed or they passed away trought the digestive tract. When combined with diet and lifestyle changes, IGBs can lead to significant weight loss and improvements in obesity-related conditions. Side effects, such as nausea and discomfort, are common but usually temporary. Ongoing research aims to enhancenhance IGB effectiveness and safety, positioning them as a valuable, intermediate option for weight management before considering surgical interventions.
