Cancer Prognosis in Brief
摘要
Cancers are the leading causes of mortality and morbidity around the world, and by improvement in the availability of screening and diagnostic methods, as well as reduction of communicable diseases and elongation of life expectancy, their incidence is increasing. Different cancers have variable behavior and will eventually cease the patients’ lives or make them live with disability. Prognosis is a term used to describe the predicted chance of living to certain times in the future after detection of a disease. Although it is a redundant definition, it is widely used by scientists and physicians to communicate and by policy-makers to distribute the resources. In this chapter we reviewed the prognosis and life expectancy of major cancers with emphasis on their burden and how to improve it.
