Speaking, which can also be described as the initiation of communication, is the most common and significant tool facilitating interaction among people. Undoubtedly, acquiring effective speaking skills is crucial not only for every individual but also for refugee students. This is because speaking is actively utilized in all aspects of life. In this context, refugee students’ ability to effectively talk about the language of their country is of utmost importance in terms of communication, social integration, and learning skills. This chapter, prepared to assess and enhance the speaking skills of refugee students, briefly touches upon the fundamental language skills of listening, reading, and writing while focusing in detail on speaking. The chapter explains different types of speech, discusses the importance of developing speaking skills in a foreign language (EFL) and a second language (ESL), examines the challenges refugee students face in speaking, elaborates on the difficulties experienced by teachers of refugee students and strategies to address these issues, and highlights the situations of refugee students in various countries, including Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United States, France, Canada, Australia, and Türkiye.
