This article explores the concept of “plural forms of design” as a strategic approach to addressing contemporary challenges of sustainability and social inclusion. It highlights the importance of co-creation in design, involving communities, experts and diverse agents in the construction of local identities and meeting spaces. It analyses initiatives such as the New European Bauhaus and UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network, underlining the role of design as a catalyst for social change and sustainable urban development. Grounded in authors such as Augé, Bianchini, Florida, Hall and Lynch, the research examines how contemporary urban spaces affect the construction of identities and feelings of belonging. The study concludes that social responsibility in design education is fundamental for preparing professionals capable of acting as cultural agents and transformers in a globalised society that simultaneously values local identities.
