Connecting Manufacturing Industry to the Circular Economy
摘要
To enhance sustainability and reduce waste, the manufacturing industry must transform significantly to embrace a circular economy. This involves shifting towards a model where goods are refurbished, recycled, and reused, thereby extending their life cycles and reducing environmental impact. Intelligent technologies play a crucial role in this transition by enabling new professions such as local cobot operators, cyber-physical maintenance technicians, and circular economy service coordinators. These roles utilise advanced robotics, augmented reality, digital twins, and 3D printing to optimise manufacturing processes and maintenance. Integrating these technologies facilitates more efficient and sustainable production methods, promoting the reuse of materials and reducing the need for new resources. Furthermore, the circular economy emphasises selling services rather than products, fostering a service-oriented approach that enhances customer satisfaction and product longevity. This shift towards a hyperconnected, service-oriented manufacturing industry aligns with the Industry 5.0 vision, which prioritises human-centricity and sustainability. Embracing these innovative approaches enables the manufacturing industry to achieve greater efficiency, competitiveness, and environmental responsibility.
