This chapter contains the introduction to this book. The development of intelligent machines should not be viewed as a replacement for humans but rather as a complementary force requiring a balanced division of labour between humans and machines. These machines have the potential to significantly reduce humanity’s carbon footprint by offering new ways to coordinate and organise activities. However, achieving such positive change requires societal action and shifts in public perceptions of technology. Existing concepts and stories, including individualistic definitions of intelligence and science fiction narratives, can be misleading. Legislation and infrastructure can facilitate this transformation; therefore, recognising the potential for systemic change is crucial to harnessing the benefits of intelligent machines in reducing carbon emissions.

摘要
