One of the elements for controlling transport and pedestrian flows in the road environment is traffic light regulation. Optimization of the operating modes of many traffic lights is necessary in order to reduce delays in vehicle movement and waiting time to pass through intersections, and reduce the likelihood of traffic jams. The article discusses the development of methods and software agents for calculating the optimal cycle times of individual traffic lights and the operating modes of many traffic lights in sequence with the aim of forming a “green wave” for vehicles. The relevance of the article is due to the fact that the growth of road traffic reduces the efficiency of the urban transport system, the time of delays and stops, leads to the formation of traffic jams, and increases the likelihood of road accidents and violations. The object of the study is controlled intersections and sequences of traffic light objects on city highways. The subject of the study is a multi-agent intelligent traffic control system. The purpose of the study is to develop a methodology for optimizing the timing of traffic light cycles of individual traffic lights and a method for coordinated control of the operation of a traffic light sequence depending on traffic conditions. The result is software agents for optimizing traffic light cycles and synchronizing traffic lights to create a “green wave” for traffic flow.
