To exacerbate the impacts of climatic variation, worldwide coastal communities are grappling with several initiatives, including the UN's “Blue Carbon” project that aims to protect and restore coastal ecosystems, particularly mangroves, salt marshes, and seagrasses, which are crucial for carbon sequestration and biodiversity. In the Philippines and Indonesia, community-driven mangrove restoration projects revived degraded lands but also improved fisheries and provided natural barriers against storm surges. Similarly, in Indian coastline extends over 7500 km encompassing diverse ecosystems and millions of people dependent on marine resources. Such land restoration initiatives are also gaining traction within Indian boundaries. Recent developments in India highlight the effectiveness of community-based approaches in coastal land restoration. In West Bengal, the Sundarbans, a renowned UNESCO World Heritage site, glorifies the potential of community involvement in restoration efforts under such adversities. The involvement of local coastal communities, NGOs, along with the peer support from government agencies, enhances the engagement in mangrove planting and sustainable fisheries management, significantly contributing to both ecological perspective and economic stability.
