Small and medium enterprises represent the backbone of the European economy, yet these are exposed to significant cyber-security risks. Strengthening the cyber-awareness and hygiene of such enterprises is critical to protecting sensitive information and ensuring business continuity. This paper presents the training methodology developed within NERO, an EU-funded project which aims to increase cybersecurity awareness among European SMEs. The methodology combines a tailored curriculum–covering topics such as threat recognition, safe digital practices, and regulatory compliance–with a blended delivery model utilizing both online and in-person sessions. Preliminary results from pilot sessions conducted across several European countries indicate a significant improvement in participants’ cyber-awareness and hygiene practices. These findings underscore the importance of training initiatives and provide actionable insights for further empowering SMEs to face evolving cyber threats.
