Not all situations that occur in our lives provoke crucial transformations in our existence. Entering a library any day or eating a dish at one’s parents’ home are occurrences that do not leave a mark on the person. However, certain situations that a person experiences transform them and lead them to take a new direction in life. Imagine that you enter the library where you studied the philosopher you worked on during your Ph.D., or that you know the dish you are eating is the last one your mother is going to prepare for you. The experience may be transformative. This chapter analyzes the content of these experiences. It distinguishes experiences from occurrences, which do not change people. Subsequently, it studies the characteristics that an experience must possess in order to produce a metamorphosis. In this way, we understand that experiences do not depend exclusively on the action of the person but on their immersion in a reality that surpasses them. In this way, the subject will become that which surpasses them, they will become an experience.
