A Conceptual Exploration on the Preparedness of Academic Libraries for Blockchain Technology
摘要
This research looks at the academic library preparedness for blockchain technology integration: where the current infrastructure, staff expertise, and potential applications stand. As more and more people become interested in how blockchain can help in terms of data integrity, security, and access, this study takes a look at the readiness of academic libraries to adopt this disruptive technology in Palestine. The research finds that barriers to implementation include lack of technical knowledge and resource limitations, and identifies how these barriers were created through qualitative interviews and surveys from library professionals. It also discusses how blockchain could be used to enhance cataloging, digital preservation and resource sharing. The findings indicate that library staff are increasingly aware of the existence of blockchain, no doubt due to the many related articles in the media, but further training and strategic planning are essential for successful adoption. The recommendations for academic libraries at the end of the study contain recommendations for academic libraries to develop frameworks for the adoption of blockchain technology, so as not to lose relevance and to continue meeting the needs of users in the context of a digital ecosystem.
