Supplements
摘要
With so many dietary supplements on the market, navigating the landscape can be extremely challenging. While many supplements lack scientific support, some supplements can have some beneficial effects on the heart. This chapter reviews several popular supplements—garlic, green tea, Coenzyme Q10, omega-3 fatty acids, and multivitamins—and discusses the potential benefits and supporting evidence, or lack thereof. It is important to note that while supplements may be convenient, the American Heart Association recommends that we get our nutrients from foods. Supplements cannot replace a well-balanced diet and carry their own risks and side effects. If you are considering supplements, be sure to inform your physicians before starting any regimen, and don't lose sight of maintaining a nutrient-rich diet for optimal heart health.
