Talking to Your Heart Doctor
摘要
Heart disease is often identified during primary care visits or acute events. Patients may present with shortness of breath, chest discomfort, or loss of consciousness and require a thorough assessment, including a complete history, physical examination, and 12-lead electrocardiogram. Based on these assessments, patients may be referred to cardiologists who specialize in different aspects of the heart, such as heart rhythms (electrophysiology), the heart’s plumbing (interventional cardiology), and heart failure management. While reinforcing the importance of lifestyle modifications, they perform a myriad of procedures, including stenting and valve repairs/replacement if indicated. Patients must remain actively engaged and advocate for themselves throughout their medical journey by inquiring about diagnoses, potential procedures, and/or treatments.
