A Note on the Charmed World of Fiction and the World of Faery
摘要
There are interesting resonances between the charmed world of fiction and the world of fairy stories. This chapter draws primarily on Tolkien’s work on fairy stories. Tolkien gives an indirect account of the fairy story world as also opening up truths which are fundamental to the deep nature of our everyday reality, and as doing so through its particular kind of mysteriousness to our understanding. The differences between the two kinds of worlds, too, however, are illuminating with respect to what humorous fiction achieves.
