Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on the 24th of February 2022 was as much a war of words and information as it was of tanks and fighter jets. Waged in the information space, Russian intelligence services and propaganda networks tried to erode Ukrainian morale, legitimize Russian aggression, and undermine global support. This chapter provides an overview of how information warfare is conducted by the Russian Federation. It shows how information warfare efforts initially attempted to shape the Ukrainian and global information space ahead of the invasion and how Russia then had to defend its own through autocratic measures. The chapter then explores how these efforts have adapted to a more restrictive Western information space and how they have since pivoted to the Global South.

摘要
