This chapter explores how creative art practices, particularly photography, can re-imagine Romanian culture by engaging with elements of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) through interdisciplinary and participatory methods. The study utilizes the concept of “photo-entanglement” to address how photographic representations can safeguard, transform, and share oral traditions, myths, and personal stories, including Romanian wolf folklore. The challenge lies in how photographic images often distort or partially reveal the essence of these narratives. By employing still-life photography as a means of storytelling, the artist demonstrates how the visual medium can engage with both individual and collective memory, offering a platform for cultural expressions to be reimagined and shared. Through visual ethnography and participatory methods, the research underscores the reflective process inherent in capturing, developing, and interpreting photographs. Participants engage deeply with their heritage by revisiting myths, accessing personal memories, and contextualizing them within a broader cultural framework. This approach not only safeguards but also reactivates the narratives, creating a bridge between the past and the present. The chapter adds weight to the use of photography as a tool for safeguarding ICH, emphasizing its potential to capture the interplay between tangible and intangible elements that inform our cultural identity. The methodologies discussed here extend beyond photography to include practices applicable to museums, anthropology, and psychology, enriching the understanding of how ICH can be creatively and collaboratively documented, interpreted, and shared.
