As technology becomes more prominent in our daily lives, questions about its potential benefits and drawbacks arise, as well as its impact on global issues. In this context, Internet freedom is a key topic of discussion due to its possibilities and limitations, especially concerning freedom of expression in digital spaces such as social media. With this issue in mind, this paper explores the concept of Internet Freedom, using the case of the TikTok platform as a means of activism. By taking note of the general policies of this platform and using migration as an example of a global issue where social media has great relevance, we aim to analyze the potential of TikTok in providing a platform for freedom of expression. We argue that TikTok has the potential as a digital space for migrants’ freedom of expression as a means for activism in the context of Internet Freedom. To achieve this, we review the representation in TikTok of three specific moments of migrants’ activism stemming from the migration policies implemented with the presidency of Donald Trump. Despite its freedom limitations, we conclude that TikTok has creative aspects that make it a digital space for freedom of expression and activism for migrants.
