Tailored Conducting Polymers for Surface Protection
摘要
Conducting polymers (CPs) have garnered significant attention in materials science due to their unique electrical, optical, and mechanical properties. This chapter explores the innovative use of tailored conducting polymers (CPs) for surface protection, highlighting their unique properties and diverse applications. These polymers provide not only functional benefits such as corrosion resistance and anti-fouling properties but also enhance the esthetic appeal of surfaces; conducting polymers, that mainly include polyaniline (PANI), polyacetylene (PA), polypyrrole (PPy), polythiophene (PTh), and PEDOT. These polymers possess distinct properties that make them ideal for protective coatings. This chapter discusses methods for tailoring these polymers through doping, composite formation, and functionalization to enhance their protective capabilities. Specific applications in corrosion resistance, anti-fouling coatings, wear-resistant coatings, and electromagnetic interference shielding are examined, supported by reported studies demonstrating their effectiveness in various industries. Additionally, future directions are considered, including the development of smart coatings and sustainable materials. This chapter underscores the potential of tailored conducting polymers as versatile solutions for modern surface protection challenges.
