The Botti family’s trade activity was a combination of national and international interests corresponding to a changeable corporate structure. At the top of the group was the family company, which was headquartered in Florence and out of which developed companies based elsewhere in Tuscany, as well as Andalusia and Castile: specifically, Florence, Pisa, Cádiz, Seville and Valladolid. To which were added the individual Botti brothers’ more or less prolonged business trips to some of the most important economic centres of the time. Venice, Lyon and Antwerp were the choice markets where the family personally carried out activities of various kind, generating substantial earnings. Pisa was where it all started, Florence was where the family business achieved stability and Cádiz and Seville were the entry into Andalusia, which in turn opened the door to America and its endless opportunities. Precious metal and new products were arriving from America, along with unusual stories that were stimulating for the pragmatic, curious Florentine merchant-bankers. The company in Valladolid, the site of an important fair, and the ones in Medina del Campo and Villalón maintained a good balance of foreign exchange and mercantile activities.
