Enhancing Learning Through Practice-Based Research in New Media Design: Challenges and Creative Approaches
摘要
Practice-based research is a research approach that allows researchers to gain wisdom and understanding generated from the original knowledge. It can potentially guide researchers to a successful outcome. This approach is often employed in the field of new media design where researchers study the design of technology that provides highly interactive user experiences. Among the practices in this approach is revisiting authors’ previous research publications. This is done with the aim of gaining insights for improved creative performance as well as understanding the challenges which can help to facilitate teaching and learning. Through careful planning, this paper attempts to show how practice can inform research by presenting the iterative design thinking process as well as the work of new media designers. Then the ensuing discussion presents issues that are related to the on-site experimentation setup to provide pertinent input for design education. Additionally, the authors’ experiences highlight new perspectives in designing research projects that apply practice-based research.
