The article provides the results of the theoretical study of modern leadership theories showing that two core categories beyond 2000 are value-based leadership theories and ‘leadership as a process’ theories. In each case, great care is taken to accurately present the environmental factors that contributed to the rise of these theories as well as specific researchers who played a major role in their development. In the face of contemporary global changes driven by digitalization, globalization and growing business processes, leadership qualities are undergoing a revolution. The literature analyzes the role of a leader in time of crisis, and also refers to the development leadership capabilities addressed with new approaches that need to suit modern day fluid situations. The role of value-based leadership creating leaders able to deal efficaciously with teams in environments threatened by the impacts of constant change, crises has been analyzed and how they are pivotal for building resilient organizational structures. We pay attention to practical methods for the leadership types and employ strategic modalities such as emotional intelligence, adaptive leadership, innovative leadership etc. The purpose of this piece is to investigate the current thinking about how leaders in today’s world, facing crisis upon crises are emerging. The paper analyzes contemporary approaches to the development of leaders and their impact on improving the efficiency of organizational management. Specific focus is on large corporate bodies that have transformed their approaches to remain in business and an assessment of how innovative leadership development techniques can mitigate risks and enhance strategic planning.
