As the world is facing serious consequences of climate change and shifting dynamics of life in all aspects, UI GreenMetric is increasingly recognized by universities around the world to be a unique, and relevant ranking which offers not only tools to transform universities to be sustainable but also presents fact file of university performance in sustainability. With 1477 universities in 95 countries in its network in 2024, this first-world university ranking on sustainability consistently gains its reputation and impacts universities worldwide. What can we learn from UI GreenMetric practice as a global project? By evaluating data of ranking for the past 15 years using a mixed methods approach, this article seeks to discuss the impacts of UI GreenMetric for its members, its challenges, and its future directions. The findings show that through its three thematic priorities and the metric, UI GreenMetric has successfully transformed its members to be more sustainable and has been recognized as an influential global ranking on sustainability.
