The University of Sopron (Hungary) disseminates sustainability principles and develops its Sustainable University Model through its students and researchers. These principles and solutions are vital because their successful implementation benefits the University of Sopron, the city, the region, and the country. The study aims to introduce the award-winning sustainability activities (e.g organizational carbon footprint calculation, afforestation project, application of biomass heating plant) of the University of Sopron and to make them available as good practices to other higher education institutions through methodological guidelines and recommendations. In the spirit of a “Green University”, the University of Sopron, as the first Hungarian Climate Positive University drives and supports sustainability and environmentally conscious education, laying the foundation for strategic steps that transcend theory and put voluntary environmental protection and nature conservation into practice. In 2022, the University of Sopron won a prestigious International Sustainability Award at the International Green Gown Awards in the “2030 – Climate Action” category. The University of Sopron qualified as a global gold-ranked university in 2023, ranking 130th globally (TOP 10%) in the UI GreenMetric, the highly recognized environmental and sustainability-focused world ranking.
