Situated in the tropical zone, the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) serves as a key hub in southern Taiwan for embedding the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into education, research, and operation frameworks. This paper was aimed at presenting the sustainability development and experiences in NPUST. NPUST has carried out an integrated research to explore the influences of climate change on Taiwan’s ecological landscapes and social structure since 2015 through integrating interdisciplinary expertise from its colleges. It launched Taiwan’s seventh Sustainability Hub focusing on the sustainable linkage between water resources and food consumption in 2023 and was the first domestic university to establish high-capacity energy storage systems. Its Smart Media Research Center has pioneered digital curriculum materials that employ Augmented Reality (AR) and board games to engage students innovatively with SDG themes. The Wildlife Rescue Center in NPUST partners globally to safeguard endangered species, while establishing regional rescue networks. As NPUST looks to the future, it is unwavering in its commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2049, while balancing environmental conservation and socio-economic development.
