Midurethral sling (MUS) placements are the most commonly performed procedure for stress urinary incontinence (SUI). They are associated with a low rate of complications that can occur at the time of the index surgery or may be delayed. The most common complication is mesh exposure through the vaginal wall. Rare complications include perforation of surrounding organs, such as the bladder, urethra, and bowel. This chapter examines the current literature on complication rates, risk factors, and techniques to prevent injury at the time of the index surgery. Clinical evaluation, diagnosis, and management strategies for each type of complication, including key surgical steps, are discussed.
