This chapter explores the dual nature of social behaviors in gaming environments, examining factors that contribute to toxicity as well as those that foster prosocial conduct. We discuss the role of gaming norms, technological affordances such as avatars and communication channels, and the influence of cooperative versus competitive game structures. Furthermore, we address the psychological consequences of virtual behaviors and the implications for real-world social development. Drawing on theoretical frameworks such as the magic circle, the Proteus effect, and bounded generalized reciprocity, we offer evidence-based strategies for promoting healthier gaming communities. Finally, we present practical recommendations for researchers, developers, and players to minimize antisocial behaviors and enhance positive social engagement in gaming spaces.
