India’s energy sector is transforming to power the needs of 1.3 billion citizens in support of Sustainable Development Goal 7: ensuring clean, reliable, and sustainable energy for all before 2030. Private sector companies have emerged as increasingly important entities driving renewable energy initiatives that support the government through policy-making. The three key private companies, Tata Power, Adani Green Energy, and Renew Power, are assumed to play essential roles in India achieving its clean energy goals. The companies are fueling innovation, scaling up capacities, and causing a marked reduction in carbon emissions by investing in renewable energy sources, including solar and wind. The present study is based on secondary data collected from different published reports. Correlation and regression analyses are done to measure the contribution of selected private players in attaining SDG 7 in India. The paper concludes by recommending better financial incentives for private sector investments, strengthening the grid infrastructure, and promoting technology innovation. Thus, India will overcome these challenges to empower its private sector with the best potential for the country to emerge as a major leader in clean energy, contributing immensely to the nation’s environmental sustainability and development.

摘要
