Unlocking the ESG Paradox: Does Corporate Sustainability Rating Matter for the ESG Performance Puzzle?
摘要
The rising prominence of environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance in corporate policies and strategies is attracting increasing attention from the global business community. There is now a greater set of ESG indices, rating agencies and metrics. The current ESG rating system poses major problems: the methods used are not consistent, the data is not always reliable, and no standardized measurement method is available. Different rating agencies have their own methods of evaluating companies, resulting in conflicting ratings that confuse investors. Rating agencies, regulators and policy-makers need to put in place a more robust methodological information structure to enable investors to take better, more accurate choices, and thus advance sustainability goals.
