Impact of Earnings Announcements on Stock Price Movements of Selected Nifty 50 Companies

This study aims to analyse the impact of earnings announcements on stock prices movements of selected Nifty 50 Companies. It critical analyses the cumulative abnormal returns before earnings report and after earnings report, in order to know how significantly it influences the earning disclosures on the performance of stock. This study explores how the investors react based on these announces, whether it is leading to consistent price trends or inconsistency. The study aims to address the efficiency of market responses to earning announcements among Nifty 50 Companies, by examining the perceptions and decision-making strategy. The objective is to assess the relationship between earnings reports and stock price movements. Using secondary data, the study will analyse stock performance before and after earnings announcements. A sample of 15 Nifty 50 companies will be selected based on size and sectoral representation. The study examines the influence of market influence, earnings announcements, and stock volatility on companies’ performance in the first and second quarters. Companies like Reliance, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finance, and HDFC Bank showed strong market dependency, while Mahindra & Mahindra and Coal India showed moderate dependency. Earnings announcements led to significant price movements, while stocks like Tata Steel and L&T showed stability. In the second quarter, Reliance, Mahindra & Mahindra, Larsen & Toubro, and Bharti Airtel showed moderate dependence, while Infosys, HDFC Bank, TCS, and Bajaj Finance had weak market influence.
