The use of personal computers gained momentum during the mid to late 1970s. Miniaturization of components evolved rapidly, with many inventors generating groundbreaking technology and approaches. From data storage to data encryption to data networking, hardware and software inventions in this time period were numerous and long-lived. Thanks to the burgeoning women’s movement, no era generated more personal gains for women. From financial barriers falling to rising personal prospects for education, athletics, and political power, women’s rights were growing. Technical career opportunities in the computer, defense, and space industries opened the need for engineers and scientists, and Title IX allowed women to share in these scientific endeavors.
