It is this chapter that outlines the profile of the EAP student. This is presented by looking at the reasons why a learner studies EAP. It then looks at the learner’s reasons for selecting a specific EAP provider. Following this, there is a review of the contexts outlined in Chapter  3 and the students that may be found in those contexts. The final section reviews a selection of potential barriers that may negatively impact on an EAP student’s learning experience. From the content of this chapter it is demonstrated that there are a range of EAP student profiles and that these students may need to navigate a complex journey through their studies.
