The purpose of this article is to explain how the BolidenBoliden Harjavalta Nickel SmelterNickel smelter has achieved a reduction in its carbon footprintCarbon footprint while increasing its smeltingSmelting capacity by 60 kt to a total of 370 kt per year. These improvements were the result of two key developmentDevelopment projects, which were commissioned in two phases, with the first part in 2017 and the second in 2021. The primary goals included increasing smeltingSmelting capacity, extending the flash furnace campaign lifeCampaign life, and enhancing environmentalEnvironmental performance, process control, and operational safety.
