Degenerative femoral artery aneurysms often present in men (male/female ratio of 16:1) as asymptomatic pulsatile mass but may cause limb-threatening ischemia due to acute thrombosis. Aneurysms confined to the CFA are classified as type I, and those involving the origin of profunda femoris are classified as type II. All symptomatic femoral artery aneurysms should be repaired. Asymptomatic aneurysms 3.5 cm or larger in diameter should undergo open repair with interposition grafting and reimplantation of the deep femoral artery or a separate bypass to the deep femoral artery for type II common femoral artery aneurysm.
