Popliteal artery aneurysms are the most common peripheral artery aneurysms and are more common in men. During a 5-year surveillance, more than two-thirds of patients with popliteal aneurysms will develop varying degrees of limb ischemia. Severe limb ischemia due to acute thrombosis of the popliteal aneurysm may be the first presentation of the popliteal aneurysm. Most aneurysms need repair if they are greater than 2.0 cm in diameter. The suitability for endovascular repair requires normal proximal and distal landing zones of at least 2 cm, the discrepancy of the diameter between proximal and distal landing zone of less than 1 cm, aneurysm diameter of less than 5 cm, and at least a two-vessel run-off.
