As electric vehicles (EVs) comprise a larger and larger share of the transportation market (for both light-duty vehicles and heavy-duty vehicles such as trucks and buses), the electric grid operators must understand and plan for the resulting impacts on the electric grid—including each of generation, transmission, and distribution. Many categories of stakeholders are involved who face a wide range of challenges. This chapter looks at issues including the impact of the timing of charging on the need for utility resources, the impacts of charging on the distribution system, the forecast of anticipated growth in EV charging needs over the coming years, and alternative charging mechanisms.

摘要
