An Investigation on Best Practices to Increase Food Security and Reduce Food Waste in Qatar
摘要
Food waste is closely associated with Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12) of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As Qatar works to enhance its food security, it faces significant challenges related to a high rate of food waste and limited water resources. Reducing food waste (FW) can strengthen food security (FS) by reducing the pressure on resources. Therefore, this research aims to reduce FW and strengthen FS through strategic initiatives in optimizing resource utilization, while lessening the harmful impacts of climate change. The research further examines the significant influence of societal understanding and educational initiatives on promoting sustainable consumer choices. Additionally, it proposes strategies for improving FW management in Qatar, including targeted educational campaigns and community engagement initiatives. The significant role of government-led policies in fostering international collaboration and creating a regulatory framework to support sustainable consumption will be discussed. Together, these strategies aim to optimize waste reduction efforts and strengthen FS in Qatar amid the challenges presented by climate change.
