Sustainable development is essential for several compelling reasons including conservation of natural resources, climate change mitigation, social equity, economic stability, intergenerational responsibility, and global cooperation. Five characteristics for Sustainable development have been identified namely, renewability, substitution, interdependence, adaptability, and institutional commitment. Therefore, in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the UN General Assembly developed and approved the SDGs 2030, a set of 17 global goals designed to address pressing challenges and promote a sustainable, equitable future. Understanding and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is crucial for addressing the effects of climate change. In line with that, the more people who know about and support the goals, the more likely countries are to adopt long-term sustainable practices. Therefore, this study aimed at assessing the level of awareness, knowledge of, and attitudes towards sustainable development concepts & practices and SDGs by conducting a survey amongst a sample of 40 university students in the State of Qatar. Results showed that 50% of the participants have knowledge of the concept of sustainable development while none of them was able to identify the correct number of SDGs. Other results showed that more than 80% of the students are familiar with the social development pillars, water issues and challenges. However, most students were unfamiliar with the concepts of energy transition and green economy. It is recommended that universities integrate climate change and sustainable development education into their programs to empower learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to address environmental challenges at the national and global levels.
