Water shortage is a significant global problem. By 2050, half the world's population may not have enough water. Growing food in regions such as GCC is challenging because of the hot, dry weather and lack of fresh water. Greenhouses could help, but plants need the right conditions to grow efficiently, including enough water and humidity. Traditional cooling methods in greenhouses make the air too damp, harming crops. Finding a way to control humidity and create water without using too much energy and cost is essential. Metal–Organic Frameworks (MOFs) could be the answer. These unique materials can absorb water, even when the air is not very humid. Adding MOFs to the flexible fabric makes them work even better. Making MOF-fiber structures is a careful process, but it's worth it. Our study uses fabric with MOFs to collect extra water in greenhouses. By repeatedly soaking up and letting go of water, these structures can make fresh water from the available humidity in greenhouses for watering plants or cooling systems.
