Iris-Fixated Phakic IOL for the Correction of Presbyopia: Artiplus IOL
摘要
The growing prevalence of presbyopia has led to an increase in interest in novel techniques for presbyopia correction. Presbyopia-correcting phakic intraocular lenses (PIOLs) are an emerging option to address the limitations of crystalline lens extraction and presbyopic laser corneal vision correction. In this chapter, we approach the technology and early clinical trial results of a novel presbyopia-correcting iris-fixated, iris-claw PIOL (IC-PIOL), the Artiplus (Ophtec BV, Groningen, the Netherlands). This IC-PIOL has an aberration-free, multisegmented optic with a smooth transition from far to near between segments, which offers a constant defocus between the two focal points. This novel IC-PIOL allows for the correction of presbyopia in some low hyperopes, emmetropes, and most important in myopes, with promising results from the clinical trial’s interim data.
