This chapter describes the Hoya Vivinex™ Gemetric™ and Gemetric™ Plus trifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs). The Vivinex lens platform is reviewed, followed by a description of the design elements of the two trifocal models. Results from a pivotal clinical trial comparing visual outcomes between various combinations of the lenses (Gemetric/Gemetric, Gemetric Plus/Gemetric Plus, Gemetric/Gemetric Plus), including both toric and non-toric lenses, are then presented. The study included refractive results, visual acuity, defocus curves, contrast sensitivity, patient-reported outcomes, and spectacle independence. Results showed that both IOLs provided patients with excellent vision through 3D of defocus with few reported visual disturbances and high patient satisfaction. The relatively better intermediate vision with the Gemetric IOL and the relatively better near vision with the Gemetric Plus IOL allow surgeons to customize their surgery to patients’ individual needs. Clinical outcomes with the toric models of both trifocal IOLs were equivalent to those achieved with the non-toric models.
