Diffractive Optics: The AST Family
摘要
This chapter explores the key features of the Asqelio™ bi-aspheric hydrophobic trifocal intraocular lens family, highlighting its optical design and clinical performance. It presents detailed clinical outcomes, including visual acuity, refractive results, contrast sensitivity, and the clinical defocus curve. Additionally, patient-reported outcomes—such as satisfaction levels and spectacle independence—are discussed, along with the authors’ firsthand experience with this trifocal platform. The chapter provides compelling data demonstrating effective restoration of distance, intermediate, and near vision after cataract surgery, with excellent patient satisfaction and a high degree of spectacle independence across all distances. It also examines how the bi-aspheric design plays a crucial role in meeting the diverse visual needs of today’s patients while minimizing the incidence of bothersome dysphotopsia. Furthermore, it explains how the lens’ high Abbe number and the absence of a yellow filter make it an outstanding option not only for advanced cataract cases but also for presbyopic adults with early dysfunctional lens syndrome.
