In this chapter, geographic information system (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) tools, which are gaining importance today, are briefly mentioned. The characteristics of agroecosystems are summarized, and the importance of topographic, climatic, soil, and land use/cover databases in modeling studies to be conducted for these systems is emphasized. The importance of freely downloadable, reliable, accessible, and continuous databases is emphasized, and some important global or international databases from which the mentioned data can be obtained are summarized. In this context, the Global Digital Elevation Model (ASTGTM) version 3 topographic databases provided by EARTDATA of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), soil databases provided by the International Soil Reference and Information Center (ISRIC), climate databases provided by the High-Resolution Climatologies for World Land Surface Areas (CHELSA), and Coordination of Environmental Information (CORINE) databases provided by the European Environment Agency (EEA) are introduced. The roles of GIS and RS technologies and methods and the use of these databases in agricultural planning are discussed.
