Reconstruction through Resettlement: How Two Thousand Years of Jewish Life in Tunisia Vanished Overnight
摘要
The previous chapter looked into the role played by Jewish American organizations in the rehabilitation of Tunisia’s Jewish community. This chapter seeks to examine the final phase of these organizations’ intervention on behalf of the Jewish population, which was reconstruction. By encouraging their emigration to Palestine, these organizations sought to rebuild and reconstruct the lives of Tunisia’s Jews in another country than the country of their birth. In order to achieve this goal, Jewish American organizations employed all available tactics and provided all possible assistance to precipitate the disappearance of Jewish communal life in Tunisia.
