Benchmarking is an efficiency performance measurement procedure that allows entities to compare their perfomance with that of the top competitors. In this chapter, benchmarking (as an efficiency performance measurement tool using a specific indicator) and key performance indicators (KPIs) are first briefly introduced. Then, we introduce and connect the concepts of efficiency and productivity and discuss ways of measuring different types of efficiency.
