This chapter provides a snap-shot view of the book: Africana Womanism in the Global Age which is premised upon the realisation that African women’s struggles continue to be topical, not just in Africa but the world over. More than 25 years after the groundbreaking Beijing World Conference on Women, women across the globe and particularly in Africa continue to face the same old challenges and contend with recurrent struggles. As highlighted in Beijing 1995, the main challenges that women continue to face include poverty, lack of access to education and training and access to health, violence, as well as hindrances in accessing positions of power and decision-making. The book, thus, uses the Africana womanism theoretical lens to speak to old challenges faced by African women, the recurrent struggles that they grapple with and the new solidarities that emerge despite these struggles.
