This work aims to study the interrelationships between indebtment and different spatial expressions or needs in popular territories characterized by a combination of self-construction and planning techniques. With this purpose a qualitative methodology was implemented through 25 in-depth semi-structured interviews with groups of inhabitants of two neighborhoods which were chosen for being highly representative and emblematic examples of the architectural and urban condition of the social habitat in Quito; also, within its territories, walking tours were conducted to identify the landscape and spatial expressions reported by the interviewees. In this document, we report the results obtained regarding the spatial categories or typologies considered as the motivators for the acquisition of debt identified in the case studies.
